Learn about Master Chan Lee



Chan Lee has been involved in martial arts his entire life. His father is a grandmaster in Tae Kwon Do who opened his first martial arts school over 30 years ago. As a result, Chan spent most of his childhood years training in martial arts and teaching classes.

After graduating college from the University of Wisconsin, Chan realized that his passions were in taking over his father's business. Therefore, during college and for several years after, Chan committed himself to learning everything he could about running a small business – with a specific focus on marketing.

He researched both in and outside the martial arts industry. Since there was no MAIA, NAPMA, or martial arts business gurus at the time, he ended up spending most of his time learning about marketing (via seminars, coaching, and networking) from non-martial-arts marketing experts such as Tom Hopkins and Brian Tracy.

By implementing what he learned, Master Lee has accomplished the following over the last 13 years:

  • Grew his father's business from a single location to five and took the main school from 150 to over 500 students.
  • Transformed his father's annual tournament from 250 competing students to an event held twice a year with over 600 students.
  • Started an annual fundraiser called the Board Break-a-Thon which has donated over $40,000 over the past 13 years to Children Hospital of Milwaukee’s Cancer Care Center
  • Constructed a free-standing building for two of his schools, each with over 6,000 square feet – with plans to construct a third building with over 14,000 square feet by the end of 2008.
  • Grew average per school revenues to $35,000 a month and exceeded $2,000,000 in gross sales in 2007.
As Master Lee's operations have grown, he has continued to access experts from both inside and outside the martial arts industry via seminars and coaching programs, and by hiring outside consultants.

Allen Oelschlaeger was one of the consultants he brought into his business back in 2002. Since then, in working with Mr. Oelschlaeger, Chan's business has grown from two locations to five and sales have quadrupled.

Part of this growth was due to the implementation of more-effective marketing programs developed in concert with Mr. Oelschlaeger. However, an even greater contributor was the systemization and automation of the programs Chan already had in place. This latter effort freed him up to spend more time with students and staff (which is the work he truly loves) and allowed him to devote more of his energies to opening new schools.

In 2006, Chan and Allen decided take the systems and automation which had been honed at Chan's schools and offer them as Proven-To-Work, Done-For-You, 100% Guaranteed Marketing Solutions to other school owners.

As a result, the Martial Arts Marketing Network was founded in early 2007.
